Buick Limited

The Buick Limited was an automobile built by the Buick Motor Division of General Motors, Flint, Michigan (USA) . Buick Limited production is defined by two distinct eras.

In 1936, Buick renamed its numbered series vehicles, and the Buick 80 and Buick 90 Series became the Buick Limited. Buick Limited’s rode on the company’s longest wheelbase of 138” (11.5 feet) and were the most expensive Buicks in production. In 1938, the wheel base was stretched to 140”. In 1939 Buick products underwent a substantial redesign, however the Limited continued to use its 1938 body and trim. Production of the limited continued until the eve of World War II.

Following World War II, Buick dropped its extended wheelbase models, and in turn dropped the Buick Limited nameplate.

The Buick Limited series was revived in 1958 as the ultimate Buick for the model year. 1958 Buick Limited’s received their own tail light design and chrome side trim and rode the division’s longest wheelbase. In an age of excess, the 1958 Buick Limited is regarded as one of the most chrome laden automobiles ever produced by Detroit.

Following the close of the 1958 model year, Buick dropped the Limited moniker and replaced the car with the Buick Electra 225.

Buick continues to use the designation of "Limited" on its models to denote the highest trim level in a model range.
