The heroes

The Belmont clan

The Belmonts (or "Belmondos" in Japan) are the main heroes of the series. They have the enchanted bloodline that can defeat the Count Dracula. They aren't the only heroes in the series, but they are often the main focus of the games' storylines. In some of the later games, the Belmont name was lost to the characters, making those heroes mere descendants of the legendary family, yet possessing the Belmont blood. For that matter, they are considered part of the Belmont clan.

Other main characters (non-Belmont)

Alucard Tepes

The following characters can be found in the games and are playable:

While not exactly an official Castlevania character, the Kid Dracula character shares many similarities with the Castlevania series. In fact, the main character is also named Alucard and just may be the same Alucard Tepes when he was much younger. That is just speculation, since the tone of the Kid Dracula game is more focused on comedy, being very distant from the Castlevania universe.

Supporting characters (hero)

The following characters can be found in the games, but they aren't playable and are there simply to drive the story along.

The villains

The Castlevania games have always had a single focus on a single character as the main antagonist. That villain is none other than the Count Dracula. While not the main villain of all the Castlevania games, Dracula has played a role in every one. He is the source of evil, and the reason for why the heroes fight in the Castlevania series.

The other bad guys

These characters are the major antagonists in the games:

Assorted monsters

The Castlevania series features a large variety of monsters from classic horror fiction, films, fantasy, and mythology. For more details on the appearances of these creatures in the Castlevania games, see the aforementioned Castlevania Dungeon.

It is worth noting that while the bulk of these names come from European sources, the list also includes creatures from Latin America and Asia, making the series a kind of multicultural monster collection.
