Nuevo Laredo is a city in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico.
It stands on the border with the United States, connected to Laredo, Texas, across the Rio Grande (Rio Bravo) river by three international bridges. The city is larger than its U.S. counterpart, but is younger, having been established after the state of Texas broke away from Mexico. It is the largest inland port in Mexico, as is its American counterpart.
Crossing the border from north to south costs USD $0.50 and, from south to north, $0.50. Many restaurants close to the border in Nuevo Laredo offer food at very reasonable prices, and there is a large open air market nearby.
Tolerance Zone
The Tolerance Zone is a walled-in section of Nuevo Laredo isolated from the rest of the city, where several gentlemen's clubs offering adult entertainment are located. This place is known by the locals as "The Tolerance Zone" (La Zona de Tolerancia) because prostitution is legal inside its premises.
