Sam Perkins

Samuel Bruce Perkins (born June 6, 1961) was a professional basketball player.

Sam Perkins was born in Brooklyn, New York City.

High School

Perkins attended Shaker High School in Latham, New York .

College

Perkins played basketball for North Carolina (UNC). During his four years at UNC, Perkins was part of a core that won the 1982 NCAA Championship with Michael Jordan and James Worthy. Perkins played at the college from the 1980-1981 season to the 1983-1984) season, after which he was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks.

Professional Stats

In the NBA Sam played forward. He was first drafted in 1984 by the Dallas Mavericks. Sam retired after the 2001-2001 season having played for 17 years. Throughout his career, Sam has played for many good teams. In Dallas, Sam teamed up with Rolando Blackman, Mark Aguirre , and Derek Harper to form a late-1980s championship contender, but knocked out by the Magic Johnson's Los Angeles Lakers nearly every time. After the dismantling of the Mavericks core, Sam went on to play for the Lakers where he joined Magic, as well as former UNC teammate James Worthy. He appeared in the 1991 NBA Finals with the Lakers to face the Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls and hitting the shot that would win Game 1. However, Sam's former UNC teammate and his team would rally back and take the championship. After a few more years in LA, Sam moved to the Seattle Supersonics, who were led by a young Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. In 1996. the Sonics made the NBA Finals, where they would face the Chicago Bulls. For Sam, this particular series would be a rematch against Michael Jordan, fresh from retirement and having led the Bulls to a record 72-10 record. The Bulls would beat the Sonics for the 96 title. Sam ended his career with the Indiana Pacers, joining a team led by Reggie Miller. The Pacers would make the NBA Finals in 2000, however they were beaten by the Los Angeles Lakers, led by Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal.
